ROOSEVELT JEAN ESQ. WINS 8-0 JURY VICTORY IN NJ EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION TRIAL

On May 2, 2025, Managing Partner Roosevelt Jean, Esq., a New Jersey Certified Civil Trial Attorney, secured a unanimous 8-0 jury verdict at the Essex County Superior Court in Newark, NJ — in under 50 minutes of deliberation. The Firm was appointed Special Counsel.

The two-week trial, held at the historic Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Building addressed the use of a racial slur in the workplace, the employer’s prompt investigation, and termination of the involved parties. One of the terminations was later challenged as “retaliatory,” but the jury swiftly affirmed the employer’s actions under the circumstances was necessary, lawful, and just.

The case was tried and won under the guidance of two leading precedents:

• Taylor v. Metzger, 152 N.J. 490 (1998): A single racial epithet may create a hostile work environment under the NJLAD.

Gaines v. Bellino, 223 N.J. 412 (2015): Employers must ensure trained leadership responds decisively to discrimination complaints.

This decisive verdict reflects our firm’s unwavering commitment to justice to those harmed by discrimination, and we are honored to have helped bring closure and accountability in this matter.

Justice was done. Now may healing begin.
